About Florida Department of Corrections

Florida is known as the Sunshine State. Most of the year you can find a fantastic sunny day with a small chance of rain. But that does not deter crimes from happening.

The Florida Department of Corrections expects to process over 200,000 detainees every year. The Florida Department of Corrections’ annual budget is just over $2.5 million. Crime in the Sunshine State is ranked the third-largest DOC in all of the United States.

The DOC here in Florida is responsible for all incoming state detainees and the various 150 offices spread throughout the great state. This does not include their many state-operated prisons spread throughout the great state. These offices handle a lot of the admin work, probation services, and parole services. These offices have people coming in and out of them during regular business hours.

The DOC is always expanding their facilities to accommodate the increase of detainees they see every year. Every year new detainees increase due to more people calling Florida home and more crimes being committed.

Over the past few decades, the Florida Department of Corrections has been adding in more and more programs to help their detainees learn to cope with mental illness, anger issues, and problems they may face in the outside world. This helps detainees have a better chance of not re-offending when they get released into the outside world. The DOC is hoping this will slowly decrease the number of detainees they see coming through their doors yearly.

All people who wish to work for this state agency should be aware that safety is the utmost important thing. You will be trained and trained thoroughly during your time here in the Department of Corrections.
